The middle school "humanities block" (Lit/Language Arts/Social Studies) is wrapping up Egypt and will be focusing on Greece and Rome soon and we'll do some intense mythology study after Catholic Schools Week. We're practicing our literacy skills as we work through learning to find facts and information efficiently in non-fiction passages, and are getting better as we go.
In addition, the 4th-5th graders are doing a great job keeping up on Battle Books (we're reading a LOT with our ears, thanks to audiobooks!) and we're even letting the third graders hear some stories as we talk about leadership in social studies class with Class President and The Hundred Dresses. In January, the 3rd and 4th graders will spend some time with Wisconsin author Laura Ingalls Wilder, too!
Speaking of the Battle of the Books...it's coming soon. The Monday after Catholic Schools Week soon. We don't have school that day, but it's scheduled for Monday, February 6th at 5 p.m. at St. John Vianney. Expect your 4th or 5th grader to be bringing home a book (or two) for Christmas break. We'll get through our list soon...and then move on to more fun books that we choose ourselves!
I hope your Advent preparations are going well!
